Its not about that KK, its just that thats the first time I'm hearing of a play off thing in football. It's as if they adapted rules from other popular US sports.

In other countrys in Europe what happens is basicly this:

They start the pre-season, by doing some friendly games to tune the team, adjust new players and try new tactics.

In August they start multiple competitions.

The National League, wich is the most important of the season. You will get 3 points per game you win, 1 per tie, 0 for defeat. Starts on late August, ends in May.

During that period, the teams also go on, in the Country's cup, wich is a side competition to the championship.

Several countrys also have a secondary cup. While one cup represents the Federation, the secondary represents the sponsor of the League.

Wich gives you 3 intern competitions.

While the championship usually has 16 teams, and you have to play them, once at home, and once out, the country's cup, normally has every possible team represented, via elimination, from all divisions, 2nd division, 3rd, etc.
The League cup normally only uses top teams.

Add a 4th competition the european/continental one.

The top teams of each country face off from time to time, in the Champions League.
Normally only the 2 best teams of the country from the latter year, get in.
But you also have a secondary competition, called UEFA Cup, where the 3rd, 4th, 5th, get to participate with other teams who ended like that in their intern leagues.

You've got awesome football matches everywhere my friend.

I'm not trying to debate with anyone. Just doing what you would do. Try to sell a good sport, to someone who might not know enough. Go watch it. After a while you'll like it I swear.

The MLS Cup Playoffs is the postseason elimination tournament of Major League Soccer held at the end of the regular season en route to the MLS Cup Championship game. Eight teams total from the league's two conferences qualify for the tournament based on regular-season records, and a tiebreaking procedure exists in the case of equal records. It ends with the MLS Cup, the league's championship game.

Don't question me, Portugal

I dont think football has playoffs.

To be fair, they have pre-season. In Europe it already started. Its in the pre season that the teams buy or sell players, and do the first friendly games, to "oil up" the teams.
The competitions usually start around late August.

Some of the players that were in the WC will have 2 weeks off, before joining their respectful teams.

I watched some of the WC. But soccer is like baseball to me now. I don't really care about watching the game, just show me the highlights on SportsCenter and I'll be happy. ESPN doesn't show that many games that I have noticed. I don't get any of the Fox Sports channels and that is where a decent amount of MLS games are shown. And I won't buy the MLS ticket. The MLS Playoffs starts at the end of October so I may watch a little bit of that. But that is in the middle of the NFL season, so I may not care.

A small request to the Americans here. If you liked even just a bit of the World Cup, dont quit now. Pick a fave team and follow it up on your MLS league.

If you get time, follow up other foreign leagues.

During the next year or so, there will be ocasional USA and Canada games, that will decide of they will be on your continent championship.

Euro championship is held in 2 years, and I do hope Portugal gets qualified.
I dont usually follow the american championships, so I dont know much.

So Spain won. Congrats, Dreamer. You were right with your prediction. You should learn from him, Ravel.

Way to bitch out of your prediction, Ravel.

Spain versus Netherlands

Spain wins
2-1

I've been wrong about everything else, I'm bound to get something right.

the era of total football is gone. Now its a different generation, a different view in football tactics i think. I think for the first time Holland can become World Champion. Its been (with Germany) the best team in this tournament.

Also im almost pretty sure that, if they win WC, Sneijder will be this year's the best footballer of the world. They guy won everything this year. And i think he deserves it. What are ur thoughts?

They should definately deal with these things on a case-by-case basis because someone who gets a red card for blatant cheating (or doesn't!) gets treated the same way as someone who's given 2 yellows in terms of missing at least the next game.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying about Germany's Mueller (Maybe the player of the tournament?) out of the semi for 2 yellows, the same punishment deemed befitting for that cheat Suarez. Well his Uruguay cheats are out now, I can only hope he's blubbing his eyes out now like he was when he received the red card.

A testament to Holland that they haven't played well and made the final. It's not ''Total Football'' by any stretch (Hate that saying) but some of their stars are always exciting to watch. Robben and Sneijder being the main 2. Sneijder having 5 goals from midfield is pretty astounding.

I'm going to predict a Germany vs Holland final.

Unfortunately it seems FIFA are always too late to act on these things. They are now re-assessing the goal-line technology question I think fueled by Frank Lampard's blatant goal against Germany. Although in that situation it wouldn't have helped as England were just woeful.

They should definately deal with these things on a case-by-case basis because someone who gets a red card for blatant cheating (or doesn't!) gets treated the same way as someone who's given 2 yellows in terms of missing at least the next game.

Funnily enough they actually have re-accessed that rule and now anyone carrying a yellow into a semi final will no longer miss the final if they recieve a yellow in the semi. Apparently it's because of what happened to Gazza in 1990 and Michael Ballack in 2002.

Little bit late there Fifa...

Yeah that's what I'm saying. They should look at some of these subjectively, what Mueller has done, which seems like it was just in the flow of the game and nothing ridiculous, is not even close to what Suarez did.
